Margot Datz began her career in sculpture, which soon developed into a love of murals, trompe l’oeil, decorative painting, and interior design. The self-taught painter embellishes the walls of hundreds of homes and businesses, on and off Martha’s Vineyard, as well as her eighty-five-foot mural and bas-relief installation for the Arkansas Children’s Hospital. In addition to her murals, framed paintings, and print series, she has illustrated four children’s books for longtime friend Carly Simon.
“Margot Datz is a mythical wisp herself, a wood nymph who walks the earth and paints by the mile. She lives by the sea, surviving on detail, the exotic, and on beauty. Her antennae are always high. She listens, she digests, and she pontificates with care and humor. If anyone in this dimension has heard messages from merfolk, Margot would be the one.”
—Patience Brewster, creator of the Krinkles
“Margot Datz's ability to communicate a fragile and funny reality is unique to her. I've never seen anything like it.”
—Carly Simon, author and musician
