How I Balance Building a Business with Protecting My Vitality

As someone who has built multiple businesses, written bestselling books, and certified over three thousand coaches worldwide, I used to think success meant grinding harder. I was wrong. The foundation of everything I teach comes down to this: you can’t pour from an empty cup. So how do I keep my cup full?

It starts the minute I become aware that I'm awake each morning. In those timeless moments when my consciousness is in that expansive and free-floating state, I make a deliberate choice about the particular quality of energy I want to carry through my day. I then drink half a liter of water, blessing it and infusing it with that energy. You might think this sounds woo-woo, but here’s the thing: everything is energy, including you and me. When we're intentional about the frequency we're operating from, everything else flows more easily.

My nonnegotiable is Pilates five days a week. I schedule these sessions two months in advance, and everything else gets scheduled around them. On weekends, my husband, our dog Jax, and I take mindful walks. I also meditate daily, focusing on filling every cell in my body with the particular frequency of energy I desire to embody.

One practice that might surprise people is that I hug myself daily and say, “You are so loved and doing so great.” Self-compassion isn't selfish—it’s essential. When we treat ourselves with kindness, we create internal safety that allows us to bolder risks in the world and serve others more powerfully.

Ultimately, the key to balancing business growth with personal vitality comes down to boundaries. I’ve learned to be crystal clear about what “too much” looks like for me. Early in my career, I burned myself out because I loved my work so much that I didn't know when to stop. Now I’m selective about how I spend my time and energy. I say no to anything that doesn’t align with my desires, visions, and goals.

I evaluate opportunities by asking: “Is this worth my energy?” Time is precious, but energy is even more valuable. We can always make more money, but our vitality depends on being open, aligned, and receptive to life force energy. If our focus is on staying open and aligned, everything else flows from that, including vitality, business success, and prosperity.

Another lesson I’ve learned is that each of us must protect our own energy reserves, become responsible for scheduling our self-care, and consciously choose where to focus our attention. Anytime I feel myself shifting out of alignment—becoming stressed, overwhelmed, or running on empty—I immediately take time for myself. I don’t wait for things to “calm down.” I pause, breathe, and reconnect with Source energy. Sometimes this means stepping away from a project for ten minutes to fill myself up with light and energy.

Real success comes from understanding that taking care of yourself isn’t separate from building your business—it’s the foundation of it. When you’re operating from flow, you make better decisions, attract better opportunities, and serve your clients from a much more powerful place.

Remember: you didn’t come here to struggle through life. You came here to thrive, to create, and to experience joy while doing meaningful work. The world needs what you have to offer, but it needs you at your most sourced and aligned—not burned out and depleted.

Your vitality isn’t the price you pay for success—it’s the secret ingredient that makes it all possible.
