Lucia Thornton, RN, MSN, AHN-BC, has been involved in nursing, holistic healing and healthcare for more than 35 years. She has held clinical, managerial and administrative positions in various organizations and hospital settings including emergency and trauma, intensive care, education, research and development and quality assurance. Lucia served as the first Executive Director of the American Holistic Nursing Certification Corporation.
For the past 15 years she has been involved with developing seminars for hospitals and communities that focus on staff renewal and creating healing environments. She developed the Model of Whole-Person Caring, an interprofessional and integrative framework to facilitate individual and organizational healing and transformation. Her work in transforming hospitals into “healing environments” has received national, state and local recognition, including the Norman Cousins Award presented by the Fetzer Institute.
She serves on the faculty of Energy Medicine University and was the associate editor of Bridges, the membership magazine for the International Society for the Study of Subtle Energy and Energy Medicine. She serves on the Integrative Healthcare Policy Consortium Board and is a past president of the American Holistic Nurses Association. Her recently published book, “Whole Person Caring: An Interprofessional Model for Healing and Wellness” articulates and operationalizes concepts inherent to healing and provides a unifying framework for collaborative and integrative practice.
