How High Can You Soar was written from a very personal place. It grew out of my years of experiencing fear, failure, and loss—the painful loss of my sister Erica who passed away when we were teenagers.
By hitting emotional rock bottom, I woke up to two transformative realizations: the first being, if I was to turn my life around, it was my responsibility. No one else was going to do it for me. The second was, my past need not predict my future. No matter where I came from, I deserved to have the fulfilling life I dreamed of. This book is a testament of that journey of change, and the stepping-stones that led me to where I am today.
Looking back, I can appreciate and understand the life lessons that taught me the value of a strong work ethic and being creative and resourceful. Long before I was running my own home design company, I was cleaning other people’s homes—making their beds, cleaning their bathrooms, and washing their dishes. Surprisingly, humble beginnings and challenges can become the very things we need to achieve our dreams. I am proof of that, and so are the other incredible individuals that I interviewed for my book.
This includes individuals like Dr. Connie Mariano, who overcame a difficult childhood to become the first military woman to be appointed White House physician and the first Filipino American Navy Admiral in history. Or there’s Mia Noblet, who at eight years old was determined to follow her dream to become a highliner, eventually becoming the world record holder at the age of twenty-three. Two amazing women who, against the odds, achieved their dreams!
How High Can You Soar is a synthesis of everything I learned in my personal growth journey, and the inspiring stories of friends, colleagues, and mentors I admire. Even though each of us came from diverse backgrounds and circumstances, we all have one thing in common—we achieved our dreams. Despite the fears, doubts, and setbacks, we found effective ways to stay resilient and be fearless.
My belief is that everyone deserves to have a fulfilling life. Yes, it takes work. Yes, it takes determination and courage. And yes, you can do it! The eight steps that are taught in this book will show you how. It is my dream that when you wake up and start your day, you wake up excited and loving life. No matter where you started out, you have the power to rewrite your future. Start right now! Dream big!
