The Heart of Healing: A Holistic Approach to Health and Wellness

Bill Manahan, MD, graduated from the University of Minnesota Medical School. After internship, he served with the Peace Corps for two years in Malaysia and one year in Ghana. After completing a family practice residency at the University of Oklahoma, he was in private practice in the Mankato area from 1973 to 1994. During those 20 years, he also spent one year working in a neighborhood health center in Boston, one year in an underserved area of Hawaii, and six months in a squatter village clinic in Kenya, East Africa.

Bill is presently involved in efforts to transform America’s health care system and the healers involved in that system. He believes we need a new model of health care based on a partnership model, the pursuit of wellness, community collaboration, social connection and assumption of personal responsibility. He is working toward a health care system that integrates science, spirituality, consciousness and business – a model in which high-touch care and high-tech care merge to combine the best of energetic, spiritual, conventional and complementary modalities and philosophies.
